Going Green in the Kitchen...

After MUCH discussion and having no budget to a small one in a few months...we have decided to go with wood counter tops in the kitchen! I am oh so excited and even recently figured out how to stain them really dark and still be at a food grade finish, which is oh so important! Hopefully we will have this tackled by summer and have the tile back splash up that has been stored in the garage for seemingly forever!

I always thought wood would be hard to maintain. I know it is absolutely beautiful but what about the upkeep?

Actually, if I had kids I would not be on the path for wood tops. They are a bit more to care for because you have to oil them, and watch hot pots etc....
I am one of those that always uses chopping boards and has the counter tops spick and span 99% of the time..so I have been told I will do just fine :)

How do you stain them to get a really dark/food grade finish? What products do you use?

Hi Whitney!!
Actually I will be using MinWax and letting that settle in for 48 hours to be a sure thing...probably in dark walnut or even ebony.
On top of that..I will be using an awesome product called "WaterLox"..they have a REALLY informative website, I encourage you to check them out in your research :+)
